Cat Face, etc.

When my sister and I were kids we were very lucky to be able to go to CA or TX for summer visits. We always needed some down time. That is when we would eat those sugar dough star things that are at Disneyland, but from the store. Watch TV/movies and just sit. Please remember we were kids so they weren't indepth conversations.
To me, Cathy had the largest bag of make-up on earth. We would spread the make-up all over the circle coffee table and dress up our faces like cats. I can actually see that mental image when I think about it.
I think the last time Ginny and I went it was the summer of '93 or '94. I tried so hard to get Cathy to let me drive her red camero. We went to Disneyland and I and drove those cars that are made to only go a little the left or right, but I practiced on keeping it centered. I begged her to go with me so she could see how great I was doing so maybe I could drive. Mind you, I was 13 or 14 at the time. I remember it was more of a.... yes you did great, you are not driving my car.
That may have also been the same time that I thought Ginny was the coolest and I wanted everything she had. We had gone to the mall and we were in a music store. Ginny had money and decided to get a CD. This certain CD came with small buttons. I was so upset I couldn't have the buttons and the CD. I guess Cathy felt bad or didn't want to hear me complain and she bought me that CD with those pins. So I got my moment to feel cool like my big sis. She didn't have to do that for me, but she still did.

Cathy and I butted heads, many a time. It could be because we are so alike, as mom says when she calls me 'Cathy' all the time. (calls me 'mother' too on occasion)

Right now I feel a bit of denial. Just like I haven't talked to her in a while or that she doesn't have 5 million forwards to send my way. She hasn't been living in STL for at least 23 years. But it never felt like she was too far away.

Many memories are flooding back and I am glad I have somewhere to put them.

thank you! your entry was such a wonderful thing to read. I remember hearing about "Patti and Ginny" visits from my mom and Aunt Cathy when I was younger. I used to get a little jealous, because my mom would tell me all the things Cathy would do with you when you were out here. I am also going through the withdrawl, it seemed not a day would pass where I wouldn't get an email from Cathy, even if it was simply some forwarded message.

You know I am laughing when I open this and see the picture of me sticking my tongue out at Cathy, the picture taker.

I am sure glad she didn't throw me somewhere for always being a stinker.

I remember Cathy talking about doing cat faces. I know there are photos of you and Ginny in your cat faces somewhere in this apartment. She sure did have a lot of make up for someone who wore so little..

I loved making the cat faces! I looked forward to our trips to visit Cathy all year. It was the highlight of the summer. It was just us girls--footloose and fancy free! Cathy always had Estee Lauder free gifts for us and we would go grocery shopping and pick out our food for the week...she made us feel so special and important.

Now that I'm older, I can appreciate her giving up "vacation" time to ride the teacups at Disneyland and take us to the beach even though she didn't know how to swim. We could definitely be a little bratty. Particularly my little sister (I was an angel, of course)...I would complain to Cathy about something she was doing to pester me, and her inevitable response would be, "Patience is a virtue."

She was the person who made me realize that I am sorely lacking in patience.
